Omar slams journalists for planting fake news as gospel truth

SRINAGAR — Former Jammu & Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Tuesday took a dig on carriers of fake news and said where are they who claimed that oath ceremony will take place today in Jammu and Kashmir.

“What happened to the grand oath taking that we were promised would happen in Jammu today? “Sources” plant, journalists happily reproduce as though the gospel truth & when it doesn’t happen all of them hope we’ve forgotten what was tweeted/reported. #FakeNews,” Omar Abdullah tweeted.

In recent past, a number of reports surfaced on social media that Syed Altaf Bukhari from Jammu Kashmir Apni Party will be sworn as Chief Minister in the first week of June. The authenticity of those reports could not be verified while Bukhari himself termed those reports baseless and ‘speculations’.

Omar Abdullah’s tweet clearly indicates that there are journalists who plant fake news on the instructions of their ‘masters’.

Fake news is a form of news consisting of deliberate disinformation spread via print and broadcast or online social media.

Talking more about fake news, Omar Abdullah tweeted that: “I could write a small book on the fake news planted & happily reproduced while I was detained in Hari Niwas starting with the fight I’m supposed to have had with Mehbooba Mufti, the flight to Delhi we were supposed to have been taken on and so on & so forth. #FakeNews.”
