SRINAGAR — The Jammu and Kashmir Government has expanded its financial assistance framework for cancer patients, raising the annual family income eligibility limit from ₹2.4 lakh to ₹4 lakh and introducing recurring assistance instead of the earlier one-time support.
Under the revised scheme, eligible patients can receive financial assistance up to three times within a period of three years, replacing the previous provision under which assistance was available only once in a lifetime.
The revised framework also provides for direct benefit transfer, with funds mandated to reach the patient’s bank account within 72 hours, according to details released by the Jammu and Kashmir Government.
The financial assistance has been divided into two income-based slabs. Families with an annual income of up to ₹3 lakh will be eligible for assistance of ₹75,000, while those earning between ₹3,00,001 and ₹4 lakh annually will be eligible for ₹50,000.
The revised arrangement also significantly broadens the hospital network available to beneficiaries, covering hospitals under PMJAY-SEHAT and Ayushman Bharat, according to the government’s scheme details.
The changes mark a shift from the earlier system, under which access was restricted to a limited number of hospitals, funds were released through hospital cheques, and assistance was calculated through variable funding slabs without a guaranteed amount.
The revised framework is intended to make financial assistance more predictable and accessible for cancer patients, particularly those requiring repeated treatment and facing substantial medical expenses.
