SRINAGAR — Seven militants have been killed in two anti-militancy gunfights that raged between security forces and militants in south Kashmir’s Shopian and Pulwama districts.

A senior police official said that in Nowbugh area of Tral in south Kashmir’s PD Awantipora on Friday morning, two militants including AGuH chief Imtiyaz Shah alias Ghazi Khalid Ibrahim were killed in early morning encounter.

He added that the operation was launched on specific inputs about the presence of militants and ended without any collateral damage.

Sources said that five militants have been killed while Al-Qaida-linked Ansar Ghazwat-ul-Hind’s Deputy Commander along with other militants were trapped in a local mosque of Shopian town since yesterday.

However, both the trapped militants in Jan Mohalla of Shopian district have been killed now, taking the toll of slain militants to five.

Sources said that Dy. Commander is said to be the cousin of ex-Hizb-ul-Mujahideen chief Burhan Wani and brother of his (Burhan Wani’s) mentor, Adil Mir.
