Journalism

Journalism is for building community, citizenship and democracy. Millions of people empowered by a free flow of information, become directly involved in creating a new government and new rules for the political, social and economic life of a country.

Journalism is the fourth pillar of democracy but this noble profession has been degraded by an ever-growing breed of pseudo-journalists who are always busy in blackmailing people.

Journalists who learn journalism in universities feel utterly shocked to see these matric fail pseudo-journalists ruling the roost when they venture out in the field. The university pass-outs feel as if they wasted their precious two years studying journalism degree.

Ironically, these pseudo-journalists know nothing about journalism. They even don’t know the basic rules of photography but are still called journalists. On the contrary, they abuse and exploit the university pass-outs while working in the field.

Journalism students work hard in earning the degrees. They also have to go for research and submit the papers within a short span of time but they are always looked upon by these pseudo-journalists as ‘students’ who can be taken for granted and abused.

News organisations should take a lead in framing a minimum eligibility criteria for working in the field of journalism. The news organizations which give Press ID Cards to these pseudo-journalists should be penalized and banned.

Also, government authorities should make it compulsory for news organizations to recruit journalism students only as far as reporter jobs are concerned.
