Top 5 Players to Watch in IPL 18: Emerging Talents Vs Expected Comebacks

The IPL 18, also known as the 2025 India Premier League (the 18 comes about because it’s the 18th edition of this league) will feature 10 teams competing in 74 matches. The entire league will span over two months, from March 22, 2025 to May 25, 2025.

The IPL 18 is set to be a cricket tournament of massive proportions. In fact, since its advent around 2007 and 2008, it has become one of the fastest-growing sports leagues in the world, competing with the likes of the NBA and the NFL.

Many keen spectators will be following how these teams battle it out to become the ultimate winner of the 2025 Indian Premier League. However, for these teams to win, they need to have excellent management, fantastic team strengths but also key players. This article aims to shed light on five key players to keep your eye on in the IPL 18 – players who were set to do wonders in this edition.

Young and Aspiring Star – Vaibhav Suryavanshi

Vaibhav Suryavanshi is the youngest cricket player to ever be inducted into the Indian Premier League and is set to actually perform during the IPL 18. He was snatched up by none other than the Rajasthan Royals and therefore became the youngest player to feature in List A cricket.

He started playing cricket at the age of nine years and given that he was born in March 2011, this means that when he starts on his very first day in the IPL 18, he will be 13 years old and turn 14 as the league proceeds.

He’s extremely skilled at left-handed batting, his role is essentially as batter and his bowling style is that of a slow left-arm orthodox.

A Comeback for Umran Malik

Umran Malik was initially left unsold during the mega auction for cricket players in Dubai, on November 24 and 25, 2024. However, he was contacted by the Kolkata Knight Riders and was bought by them for Rs 75 lakh.

The Legend That is Virat Kohli

If you’re looking for a legend in the world of Indian cricket and cricket in general, then look no further than Virat Kohli. He started his professional career in 2006 with the team Delhi. This means that he’s almost been playing professional cricket for almost 20 years. His current team is the Royal Challengers Bangalore and he has been playing with them since 2008. Of course, he also plays for the Indian national team and has been captain for both of these teams.

He is a top-order batter and when he bats, he is right-handed and when he bowls, he has a right-arm medium. Although his role is as a top-order batter, this player does so much more than just play cricket. He is the reason that a lot of new cricket athletes join the sport, as he works as an example to younger players. Furthermore, as captain, he also showcases immense skill and respect for the game, establishing himself as one of the most popular cricket players in the world.

A Round of Applause for Rishabh Pant

Although not a new player but also not a legend yet, Rishabh Pant is a player that many believe is going to hit his sweet spot during the IPL 18. He has proved himself extremely well over the past few years, with his debut in 2015. He’s been playing for 10 years now, therefore, he certainly has the experience it takes to be one of the top players, however, he doesn’t have as extensive experience as the player mentioned above, therefore, many believe that he’s on his way to becoming a legend and is a player to watch this year.
