J&K Police said that it busted a hideout in south Kashmir's Pulwama district on Saturday.

Hizb-ul-Mujahideen on Sunday paid rich tributes to slain militant commander Riyaz Naikoo and his associate who got killed in a recent encounter in Pulwama and also appointed new operational head for J&K.

A hamlet in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district has been brought multiple times under siege from the past one week. The hamlet is Durnu that falls in Dooru town of the district.

Inspector General of Police (Kashmir Zone), Vijay Kumar Thursday, while terming the killing of Hizbul Mujahideen chief commander Riyaz Naikoo as a “big jolt” for militancy in Kashmir, said Naikoo’s killing will help contain militancy in the Valley to a large extent.

Operational Chief Commander of Hizb-ul-Mujahideen Riyaz Naikoo among four militants were killed in two seperate gunfights with joint teams of police, Army and CRPF at Beighpora and Khrew area in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district.

From a maths teacher to a calculative militant, Riyaz Naikoo had a lucky run for eight years before he was killed by security forces on Wednesday in a gunbattle lasting five hours.

The authorities snapped mobile internet services across Kashmir to prevent law and order situation in the wake of an encounter at Awantipore where a top militant commander is trapped.
