Youth from Mohanpora Shopian killed during clashes with Indian security forces in Pulwama

Pulwama: On the second consecutive day today police and security forces opened fire on protestors at several places in Kashmir, killing five more persons including a youth from Mohanpora Shopian.

Four persons, injured in yesterday’s firing on protestors, succumbed to their injuries in hospitals last night and this morning.

A policeman was killed when he along with his armored vehicle was thrown into river Jehlum by protestors at Sangam.

With this, the death toll in the clashes between protestors and police and security forces went up to 21 this evening. Twenty deaths have occurred in south Kashmir, whereas one at Tengapora Bypass here.

Police and security forces opened fire at some other places. A dozen persons have received bullet injuries. Even as the authorities imposed curfew in most parts of Kashmir, there was no end to protests in south, north and central Kashmir. At several places, people defied curfew restrictions and this led to clashes.

Reports of clashes and subsequent police and security forces actions were received from Newa Pulwama, Main Town Shopian, Lassipora, Rajpora, Hall Pulwama, Litter, Tahab Pulwama, Tanchibagh Pampore, Damhal, Sangam, Zainapora, Qaimoh, Yaripora, Behibagh Kulgam, Vailoo, Warpora Sopore, Tikipora Sogam, Lalpora Kupwara, Kanyal Bagh Baramulla, Armpora Sopore, Tarzoo, Batamaloo, Qamriya Ganderbal, Soibug Budgam, Mirgund and Sheikpora.

In Srinagar, clashes occurred inside the old city of Srinagar, Batamaloo, Maisuma and some other places.

Police and security forces opened fire at three places- Newa, Lasipora, and Litter in Pulwama district. Three persons Irfan Ahmad Malik of Newa, Gulzar Ahmad Pandit of Mohanpora Shopian and Fayaz Ahmad Waza of Litter Pulwama was injured. They later succumbed to their injuries.

Police said a police vehicle and some seized vehicles were set on fire at Lasipora Pulwama when the mob attacked the police post.
