SRINAGAR — The Jammu and Kashmir Board of School Education (JKBOSE) has barred supervisory staff from keeping mobile phones during examination hours in the ongoing board examinations, directing centre superintendents to ensure compliance with the order.
According to news agency KNO, the JKBOSE secretary issued a circular instructing all centre superintendents not to allow supervisory staff to keep mobile phones with them during examinations.
“They will deposit the cell phones with the centre superintendents, who will be personally responsible for implementation of the circular instruction,” the circular stated.
However, centre superintendents have been exempted from the restriction. They can retain their mobile phones for effective communication and to remain in contact with the divisional or sub-branch offices of JKBOSE, as well as their departmental hierarchy.
The board has also directed that no candidate be allowed to leave an examination centre with their question paper until at least half of the examination duration has elapsed.
The directions come after JKBOSE constituted a three-member committee on Tuesday to investigate the reported disappearance of the Mathematics question paper during the Class 10 annual regular examination at a centre in Mahore shortly after the examination began.
The annual regular examinations for Class 12 began on Wednesday, according to the source material, and are scheduled to continue until November 21. Class 11 examinations are scheduled to begin on October 29 and conclude on November 30.
Nearly 97,000 students appeared for the Class 10 examinations on October 19, the source said, with examinations conducted at 1,003 centres across Kashmir and some winter-zone districts of the Jammu division.
JKBOSE has reported that around 97,500 students have been enrolled for the Class 10 examinations, including 72,232 from Kashmir and 25,268 from the winter zones of the Jammu division.
The board has also said that approximately 2.7 lakh students have registered for the Class 10, 11 and 12 board examinations.
