SRINAGAR — Jammu has topped all 20 districts of J&K in the first-ever District Good Governance Index (DGGI) for the Union Territory, which was released by Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Saturday.
The DGGI, a copy of which is in possession of news agency Kashmir News Observer (KNO), reveals that all the three top performing districts in governance are in Jammu province.
The DGGI is aimed to assess the state of governance in all 20 districts of Jammu and Kashmir. “It will enable ranking of districts and present a comparative picture. The ranking would bring about healthy competition amongst districts in the quest to provide citizen centric administration and governance,” reads the report.
According to the report, Jammu district has topped the composite ranking, followed by Doda and Samba districts.
Among 10 districts of Kashmir Valley, south Kashmir’s Pulwama district has emerged as top performer in governance, ranking fourth in DGGI for J&K. The summer capital district of Srinagar has bagged fifth rank in the DGGI.
According to the report, Ganderbal figures at 6th rank, Anantnag at 7th rank, Baramulla at 8th rank and Kathua at 9th rank.
The north Kashmir’s Kupwara district is placed ahead of Budgam, Shopian, Bandipora and Kulgam districts of Kashmir Valley.
According to the report, Kupwara has bagged the 10th slot in DGGI. It is followed by Kishtwar (11th rank), Budgam (12th rank), Udhampur (13th rank), Reasi (14th rank), Bandipora (15th rank), Ramban (16th rank), Kulgam (17th rank), Shopian (18th rank) and Poonch (19th rank).
Among all the districts of Jammu & Kashmir, Rajouri district figures at the bottom of the ranking.
Pulwama declared as best performing district in Kashmir
The Union Minister for Home, Amit Shah on Saturday declared Pulwama district as the best performing district in Kashmir Division under District Good Governance Index.
An official told Kashmir News Service (KNS) that district Pulwama was declared as the best performing district in Kashmir division after the launch of DGGI by Union Home Minister Amit Shah today.
Notably, Amit Shah on Saturday launched District Good Governance Index for the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir.
Shah released the District Good Governance Index for 20 districts of Jammu and Kashmir today, a move which will make Jammu and Kashmir the first Union Territory in the country to have a Good Governance Index.
The event was organised jointly by the Department of Administrative Reforms and Public Grievances (DARPG) and Jammu and Kashmir Institute of Management, Public Administration and Rural Development in association with the Centre for Good Governance, Hyderabad.
