RAMBAN — During the rescue operation, the dead body of a worker has been retrieved from the debris near Panthal area of Ramban district of Jammu and Kashmir.

On late Thursday night, an under-construction tunnel at Khoni Nallah near Panthal, between Ramban and Ramsu, on Jammu-Srinagar national highway in Ramban district collapsed during an audit, injuring four people and trapping several others.

Several workers from Sarla Company engaged in the construction of the tunnel had been trapped, some were rescued in injured condition while at least 10 workers had gone missing.

An official identified the missing workers as Jadav Roy, 23, Gautam Roy, 22, Sudhir Roy, 31, Dipak Roy, 33, Parimal Roy, 38, Shiva Chowhan, 26, Nawaraj Chowdhury, 26, Kushi Ram, 25, Mujaffar, 38, and Israt, 30.

Ramban Deputy Commissioner Massaratul Islam, who has been supervising the rescue operation, told news agency Kashmir News Trust that the body of a worker has been recovered so far. He said the rescue operation is underway and efforts are on to retrieve the trapped workers.
