India, Pakistan armies exchange sweets on Diwali along LoC

KUPWARA — The armies of India and Pakistan on Thursday exchanged sweets and greet each other on the occasion of Diwali along the Line of Control (LoC) in Teetwal Sector of Karnah in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district.

Officials told Kashmir News Service (KNS) that to mark the auspicious occasion of Deepawali, the armies of India and Pakistan exchanged sweets and also greet each other at Teetwal Crossing Bridge near the LoC today.

“Both the armies exchanged sweets and compliments with their representatives in an atmosphere of bonhomie and festivities,” they said.

They said that the bridge at Teetwal has been a key enabler for such peace meetings and the calm along the LoC as a result of ceasefire agreement has brought warmth which has been displayed on several occasions between the two neighbours.

“The sweets exchange is a gesture appreciated by both countries and is expected to go a long way in promoting peace, harmony and compassion in the true spirit of the festival with a hope of better future ahead,” the officials said.

Meanwhile, locals on either side also termed these gestures as unique, which, according to them, in turn will bring security to the population living along the borders and promote prosperity and happiness.
