Restrictions, curfew in Srinagar, Varmul, Sopore

Srinagar: With a new wave of public anger and tension over the police firing in the north Kashmir garrison town of Varmul yesterday, in which one youth was killed and 24 others wounded, authorities have imposed curfew and restrictionsin most parts of Srinagar, Varmul and Sopore. There are also reports of restrictions in other places as well.
Police said the measures have been taken to thwart protests.Meanwhile, markets, educational institutions, banks, and other business establishments remain closed in the city. Transport is also off the roads.Tension continued in Varmul town, where the body of a teenager, who had drowned in Jhelum River on Saturday, was recovered on Monday. The teenager had jumped into the river after being chased by security forces during clashes there.Police opened fire on the mourners carrying the body of the boy when they refused to disperse and demanded action against the cops who, they said, made the boy to drown, resulting in the killing of another youth namely Fayaz Ahmad Khanday (23) and injuries to 24 others.
