
SRINAGAR — Three more persons from Valley were tested positive on Tuesday and with this, the number of COVID-19 patients in Jammu and Kashmir has now risen to seven.
Earlier in the day, two persons were declared positive by the administration, while late in the evening one more person, a 22-year-old man admitted in GMC Baramulla also tested positive.
Taking to social networking site Twitter on Monday morning, government spokesman Rohit Kansal wrote: “Two more cases reported positive in Srinagar. One has confirmed travel history outside India. Full details regarding the second being ascertained.”
Deputy Commissioner Srinagar tweeted, “Srinagar update: 2 more positive, Teams are on ground as per SOP. We need to be more alert and cooperative, Please cooperate. #coronavirus”.
Sources said that one among the infected is from Hyderpora, while as the other from Natipora area of Srinagar district and both have foreign travel history.
They said one of them hailing from Hyderabad had returned from Saudi Arabia on 16th March in the same flight 443-AirIndia, in which 67-year-old woman from Khanyar had travelled and tested positive on 18th March, becoming the first COVID-19 case from Kashmir.
They said that the other 57-year-old person from Natipora Srinagar, had recently escaped from Chest Disease Hospital, causing great concern to the administration, adding that he had returned from New Delhi, after being a part of a Tableegi Jamat, attended by people from Malaysia and Indonesia.
The duo was already shifted to Chest Disease Hospital for separate quarantine, where an isolation centre has been established by the health department, besides one in Sher-i-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS), Medical College Bemina and one in Jawahar Lal Nehru Memorial (JLNM) Hospital Rainawari.
Meanwhile, immediately after the test reports of the two persons came positive, authorities isolated both the areas, where from the two persons hail and sensitization and disinfection operations were undertaken.
Later in the evening, SKIMS authorities disclosed that one more person, admitted in GMC Baramulla also tested positive.
A senior doctor from SKIMS said, “His sample had been sent to SKIMS for test and it came out to be positive,” adding that the patient is said to have come from outside J&K three days ago.
Meanwhile, people were asked by the authorities not to panic and follow the advisories issued by the administration strictly to avoid the threat of spread of the pandemic further.
People were advised to adhere to the lockdown and social distancing and not to venture out of their homes to deal with the coronavirus threat.
