Jammu to Srinagar: One-way traffic on highway today


Srinagar: After remaining closed for three days for necessary repairs, the Srinagar-Jammu highway shall re-open Monday strictly for one-side traffic (from Jammu side to Kashmir), officials said.
An official spokesman said: “Subject to fair weather and good condition of road and confirmation from Traffic Control Units, strict one way movement of traffic (from Jammu side to Kashmir) will be allowed on the Srinagar-Jammu highway on October 13 (Monday).”
He said: “However the movement of traffic shall start from Nagrota (Jammu) towards Srinagar strictly from 0800 hours onwards. Keeping in view the safety and security of drivers and passengers, all types of LMVs, PSVs shall cross Nagrota up to 1500 hours Udhampur upto 1700 hours and Jawahar Tunnel up to 0400 hours of the next day. Similarly, all types of HMVs / load carriers (except Trailers, Multi-Axle vehicles) shall cross Nagrota up to 1400 hours, Udhampur up to 1600 hours and Jawhar Tunnel up to 0400 hours of the next day. Beyond this, no vehicle shall be allowed to proceed towards the Valley under any circumstances.”
The spokesman said no movement of traffic whatsoever shall be allowed on the highway from Valley side towards Jammu during the period to ensure hassle-free one way traffic movement.
“In order to facilitate the passengers, transportation of fruit and essential commodities, the passenger service vehicles (LMVs), empty oil tankers and fruit-laden load carries (medium-sized only) can use Sinthen Top-Kishtwar Route for their movement from Valley towards Jammu during up traffic day (Jammu to Srinagar) on Srinagar-Jammu highway on 13.10.2014,” the spokesman said. “Similarly all type of vehicles of the said categories can also use Mughal Road for their movement from Jammu towards Valley.”
