SKIMS withdraws 66 job vacancies; Aspirants aghast

Sher-I-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS)

SRINAGAR — The authorities at Sher-e-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS) have withdrawn 66 posts which were advertised last year, leaving many aspirants aghast.

Aspirants, who had applied for the job, said that they have been preparing for the exams from last one year but authorities suddenly decided to withdraw the posts.

Uzair Naseer, a Hotel Management pass-out who has been waiting for the exam notification for the post of Assistant Cook in Valley’s premier health institution, was shocked when authorities on June 5 issued a notification, stating that some of the posts advertised have been withdrawn.

Uzair had applied for the post in the year 2020 and has been preparing for the exams since then. He even left his previous job with a private company to get fully prepared for the examination.

Uzair said after putting so much effort for the exam preparation (along with other aspirants), he has lost faith in government institutions.

“Last year, 183 posts under 28 categories were advertised and exams for few categories were also held, however, examinations of few categories were postponed due to COVID-19,” Uzair said, adding, “What does the government want us to do? Where should we go now? I regret why I left my private job, who is going to hire me now?”

Zubair Ahmad, another Hotel Management pass-out from south Kashmir’s Pulwama district said that after applying for the post of Steward, he was waiting for the exam notifications. “After the notification for the post was advertised last year during the Corona lockdown, I had to travel to Qazigund to fill up the job application form and pay the fee,” Zubair said.

“So many people had applied for the advertised posts. There would have been satisfaction if exams would have been conducted. At least appearing in the exams could have given us an idea where our efforts have taken us. Withdrawing the posts is injustice to us,” he said.

It is pertinent to mention that SKIMS Soura authorities had advertised 183 posts in different categories, and on 5 June issued a notification for withdrawing the 66 posts in 12 categories.

In an notification issued by the SKIMS Soura, hospital authorities on 5 June stated, “Whereas, in-terms of Advertisement Notice No. 03 of 2020, dated: 26.06.2020, Sher-i-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences advertised (183) posts in (28) different categories, for being filled under direct recruitment: and whereas, subsequently due to administrative exigencies, out of (183) advertised posts, (66) posts in (12) categories were withdrawn restricting the number of vacancies to (117) only.”

“Whereas despite the withdrawal of these vacancies, the candidates are constantly approaching Sher-i-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences for initiating/finalizing the selection process of these posts; and whereas it appears that due to ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, most of the candidates are not fully acquainted with the withdrawal of these posts,” the notification reads.

The posts as per the order include Nutrition Educationist, Lift Mechanic, Technician, Technician (Bum Unit), Anesthesia Technician (Burn ward), Jr. Engineer (Laundry), Assistant Cook G-II, Steward, Jr. Pharmacist G-II, Technician (Telecommunication) C-11, Technician CSSD and Medical Record Assistant Level-2.

Meanwhile, when contacted, the SKIMS Director said he will check it out with the concerned section. “I have to attend a meeting. Once I will get free, I will call you,” the Director said.
