KUPWARA — The Army resorted to aerial firing in Trehgam area of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district on Saturday to scare locals after a scuffle took place between a local trade leader and an Army soldier.

Sources and eyewitnesses said that a team of Army men was in Trehgam market of Kupwara to guard a convoy of the Army. They said that the Army men were forcing people to park their cars away from the road when an altercation took place with a senior trade leader, Mohammad Aslam, who had parked his vehicle in the town outside his shop.

An Army man and the trade leader grabbed the collars of each other and a minor scuffle followed.

Locals said that one of the Army men fired several bullets in the air due to which panic spread in the area.

Later, the Army town commander along with his team reached the spot and pacified both the parties.
