Pulwama: Four militants were killed in the Hajin Payeen gunfight that erupted after government forces laid siege in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district.

The siege was laid after militants fired at a CRPF camp in Bellow village on Friday evening.

As the government forces started the search operation, the trapped militants fired indiscriminately at the forces which resulted into the eruption of gunbattle.

As the gunbattle was going on, local people mostly youth pelted stones towards the forces to disrupt the operation. In response, forces fired tear gas shells and pellets to contain the protestors.

Eleven civilians were injured in the government forces response among which one was hit by a bullet and was referred to Srinagar for specialized treatment.

However, four militants affiliated with Jaish-e-Mohammad outfit were killed in the encounter. Three local and one Pakistani militant were among the slain.

The local militants were identified as Muzamil Nabi Dar from Rahmoo village, Muzamil Nazir Bhat from Prichoo village and Waseem Akram Wani from Tikken village.

Incriminating materials, including arms and ammunition, were recovered from the site of gunfight, said the police spokesman.

A residential area was destroyed in the gunfight which included an under-construction house and a cowshed.
