SRINAGAR — Soon after suspected militants injured an Other Backward Category (OBC) district president in Budgam on Sunday, several BJP workers resigned from the party fearing attacks from militants for being affiliated with BJP.
Constituency president, Charar-e-Sharief, Wali Mohammad Bhat along with his constituency team while announcing his resignation from the party said he has nothing to do with BJP from now onwards. “I resign from the party. I request people to forgive me if my actions have hurt them in the past,” Bhat said.
District Office Secretary Budgam, Sameer Ahmad Shah, son of Ghulam Mohiuddin Shah resident of Humhama area of Budgam, Avtar Singh, General Secretary, district Budgam, and Imran Ahmad Parray, General Secretary M. Morcha Budgam also tendered resignations from the basic membership of the BJP party.
BJP J&K vice-president Sofi Yousuf said that Pakistan doesn’t want to see BJP as a growing party in Kashmir. “They want to create fear psychosis on the ground. That’s why militants are killing our workers,” he said.
“We urge the administration to provide immediate security to BJP Sarpanchs, Panchs and grass root level workers,” Sofi said.
