Srinagar: Two latest viral videos wherein forces are seen mercilessly beating youth have brought disrepute to Indian Army in Kashmir.
The videos, viral on social networking sites like Facebook and WhatsApp, reveal the brazen disregard to the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) by the forces.
One of the videos shows three Army men beating a youth mercilessly after the he was caught during clashes between protesters and the security forces. The video is alleged to have been shot during the clashes that erupted in and outside Government Degree College (Boys) Pulwama today.
While the other video depicts Army men beating and forcing youth to shout anti-Pakistan slogans inside an Army vehicle.
“Will mainstream Indian media publish and play these videos? No! Why? Simple; because Omar Abdullah won’t tweet them!”, commented writer and academic Shahnaz Bashir while sharing the videos on his Facebook timeline.
Nazir Gul, a Kashmiri Facebook user commented, “This should be sent to Gautam Gambhir, Virender Sehwag and Mohammad Kaif who now came to rescue of India”.
Pertinently, videos of human rights violations by the security forces in Kashmir have been going viral on social networking sites.
Previously, video of a ‘war crime’ in which a villager Farooq Ahmad Dar from Chill Arizal village of Beerwah was tied with ropes in front of an Army Jeep and was used as a human shield against stone pelting last Sunday had gone viral.
Another video, which has already gone viral and triggered debates, shows mixed reaction from the youth towards the security forces. Some of the youth were seen protecting the CRPF men while a few others heckled and abused them during by-polls in Srinagar-Budgam constituency.
